Custom piezo precision

The Imperial Series employs a unique piezoelectric drive system, in which a ring-shaped piezo resonator with a peripheral vibration shell is directly coupled to an array of radially positioned stainless-steel pushers. This unique rotary motor design enables a substantial increase in the coupling efficiency between the stator and the rotor, which increases overall motor efficiency and provides superior resolution and torque.

The Imperial Series includes powerful motors capable of extremely faster response times, coupled with submicron-level angular steps and exceptional torque. The range includes both bidirectional (reversible) and unidirectional PCB-mounted piezomotor models.

Imperial Linear Motors

Piezo Motion's linear piezomotor technology is based on a single-piece piezoelectric ceramic in which ultrasonic elliptical resonance excitation results in motion. Their ultrasonic piezoelectric linear motors represent a breakthrough in piezomotor design technology. This low-voltage, high-torque, non-electromagnetic motor overcomes many of the limitations of conventional linear motors. The result is a unique, high resolution, fast response, smooth motion, and ultra-low drift linear piezomotor

LPM-50 High Performance High Force Linear Piezomotor

The LPM-50 is an affordable, compact precision linear piezoelectric actuator combining exceptional high force (50 N) with submicron precision (<0.1 µm) and a substantial holding force (≈100 N). Based on Piezo Motion’s patented standing wave-type piezoelectric design principle, the LPM-50 provides a reaction time of fewer than 50 µs with an extended travel range of 30 mm (custom travel lengths also available) and speeds up to 0.3 m/s. Extremely energy-efficient, the LPM-50 consumes zero energy to hold position and can be controlled to move in precise small steps (PWM mode) or in a fast continuous mode. The LPM-50 is presently only available on a build-to-order basis. For additional information contact Piezo Motion.

Imperial Rotary Motors

Piezo Motion’s Imperial Series of rotary piezomotors have a more conventional cylindrical form factor, with metal shafts and alloy enclosures. They are much larger than the lightweight engineering thermoplastic range of motors offered within the blue series, but still significantly lighter when compared to equivalent size DC motors.

PM Series

PM series of ultrasonic piezoelectric rotary motors represent a breakthrough in piezomotor design technology. These high-torque, non-electromagnetic motors overcome many of the limitations of conventional electric motors. The result is a unique series of direct drive, high resolution, fast response, and ultra-smooth motion piezomotors.

The PM Series is designed for high force and fast reaction applications with short duration start /stop (duty cycle) applications.

Motor Benefits & Features

Key features and benefits of piezoelectric motors compared to traditional electromagnetic motors

  • High Performance

Technology that provides >1000 X’s Better Resolution, >100 X’s Faster Reaction Time and >10X’s Greater Specific Power Stall Torque/Force compared to conventional DC motors.

  • Non-magnetic

Piezo Motion’s piezo motors are available in non-magnetic configurations making them ideal for specialized applications where traditional DC motors cannot be used (e.g. medical MRI).

  • Energy & Cost Saving

Piezo Motion’s piezo motors operate at low voltage (e.g. 12 VDC, customizable down to 5 VDC) and have increased energy efficiency. They are designed for direct-drive applications where the need for a gearhead is eliminated altogether.

  • Low Cost

Modern engineered thermoplastic design enables Piezo Motion’s piezo motors to be priced extremely competitively compared to other brands and technologies. Simplified driver electronics lowers ownership cost further.

  • Unique properties

Piezo Motion’s piezo motors are scalable in design (rotary and linear), can be operated silently and consume zero energy in hold position.

  • Environmental

Piezo Motion’s piezo motors are immune from electromagnetic interference (EMI /RFI) and do not contain any rare earth elements (REE’s).
